Foxtel box fan
Overview

The VOC fan is a quick side project using a 60mm fan salvaged from a Foxtel TV box. The project centres around a 555 timer IC which uses diode controlled current flow to create two different resistance paths to charge the signal capacitor for the timer.

This project was also the first 3D project I ever undertook, and introduced me to the rapid prototype process of 3D printing, as well as the importance of tolerance planning and measurement in the design process. The only difficult section was design a nozzle to have a tight fit around a section of pool hose to direct the fumes outside. It required two prototypes, but the third model achieved a perfect fit using a tolerance of 0.2mm.
